A Note from Bishop Burke

Our youth are the hope of the future of the Church and of society. It is so important that their search for truth and love finds its fulfillment in Jesus Christ, the only source of truth and love, Who is alive for us in the Church.

Young people today receive so many different and conflicting messages regarding the truth and love which they seek and the happiness which they will bring to them. Many of the signals come from the culture of death, which, if followed, leaves young people disillusioned and, most sadly, sometimes despairing. 

Therefore, it is critical that the Church have an active program of youth ministry, through which young people can come to to know Christ and His Church more deeply, can learn to pray and worship God the Father more wholeheartedly, and can share with one another the witness of a virtuous life in Christ. As Bishop of La Crosse, it is my strong desire that youth ministry be carried out energetically and enthusiastically in every parish. 

Youth ministry, because it looks to the good of the future leaders of the Church, gives hope and encouragement to all in the Church. I pray that, through youth ministry, our young people of the Diocese of La Crosse, will unite their hearts to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, from Whom they will surely come to know God's truth and love in their lives. I invoke especially the intercession of Saint Maria Goretti and Blessed Pierre Giorgio Frassati for our youth ministers and the young people they serve.
